Sex and disability in Malta
Disabled people are routinely left out of conversations about sex, by services and by sex education alike. That absence causes its own harm.
This service exists to have the conversation properly, with whatever practical detail is useful.
Recognising Sexual Needs Through Adaptive Intimacy
A powerful quote stays with us: “People with disability are touched the most, but the least touched intimately.” Whether the disability is acquired or present from birth, this truth still applies. Whether physical or learning-related, each person has valid sexual needs. At Willingness, we recognise this deeply. We actively create space for open dialogue. Through respectful support, we affirm that all individuals deserve intimacy. Everyone, regardless of ability, is a sexual being with real needs.
Working with people with disabilities and their carer / guardians has taught us that creating the right environment where questions can be asked openly helps correct a lot of misconceptions.
Who Can Benefit from Adaptive Intimacy Support
If you are observing dangerous behavior in your youth and would like to discuss how to educate your youth into expressing their sexuality in a healthier way. If you have a disability and would like to explore how you can ease sex alone or with your partner. If you care for people with disability and feel that you need to learn more about the topic. This service can be of help.
Educating and Supporting Caregivers
At Willingness Malta, we actively deliver talks and training for parents, carers, and professionals to raise awareness and build confidence around sex and disability. These sessions openly address sensitive topics, using respectful dialogue and hands-on strategies. Moreover, we work closely with carers and guardians to help individuals with severe disabilities express their sexuality safely and with dignity—always aligned with their personal needs, values, and rights.
Supporting Sexuality with Respect and Care
At Willingness Malta, we support people with disabilities in exploring healthy sexuality through personalised care. We offer counselling, guidance, and safe spaces to help individuals and families understand and express intimacy needs. Our work includes public talks and training for parents, carers, and professionals. We promote open, inclusive conversations that build safer, more confident relationships through adaptive intimacy.
Empowering Safer Expression of Sexuality
We closely support carers and guardians in helping individuals with severe disabilities explore their sexuality in a safe, respectful way. Through ongoing education and hands-on support, we equip both families and professionals with practical tools to protect rights, foster empowerment, and honour each person’s unique needs. As a result, we create informed, secure spaces where individuals can confidently express themselves and build meaningful connections through adaptive intimacy.
