What is an Imperforate Hymen?

The hymen is a remnant tissue that covers part of the opening of the vagina. An Imperforate Hymen means that the hymen has no opening so the entry of the vagine is closed off. That causes that the menstrual blood cannot get out of the vagina so is normally discovered when a girl starts her period. Symptoms are pain and pressure in the pelvic area. There exists treatment which is normally surgical to open the hymen.
