What is chest binding?
Breasts are a cause of gender dysphoria for some transgender and non-binary persons, as they are a visible reminder of a person's birth-assigned sex. Chest binding is when a person minimises the size and visibility of the chest through different means of compression. Chest Binding can help with gender dysphoria and enhance mental health, but it can also lead to physical problems, so it is important to be aware of safe ways to bind the chest.
People bind in a variety of ways: some tie elastic bandages across their chests, some use a sports bra, neoprene or athletic compression clothing, or layer many sports bras or shirts. Others use commercially produced binders made specifically for this purpose.
