Can I catch an STI if I masturbate?

Through the act of masturbating, one cannot contract any sexually transmitted diseases (STD) or lose their virginity. There is an exception as to when one can contract an infection if the sex toy used during masturbation is infected. Another exception is through mutual masturbation. Some STDs can spread through skin-to-skin contacts, such as Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and herpes.
